15 amazing mini-series to watch in one evening

1. Lost room

Detective Joe Miller and his faithful partner are haunted by the 10th issue of Sunshine Motel. However, the local mafia, sectarians and other influential people, too, would not mind getting the key to this amazing room. The audience, along with the heroes, will have to find out what is so unusual hiding behind her door.

It seems that the creators of the series were inspired by the aesthetics of David Lynch. The corporate identity of the American independent director is reminiscent of many things, including a mystical plot and understatement. The project will certainly be appreciated by those who like the series The X-Files or Supernatural, as well as fans of El Fanning: a very young actress plays the missing daughter of the main character.

3. Crimson petal and white

The series conveys well the gloomy atmosphere of the novel of the same name by Michelle Feiber, author of “Stay in my shoes.” The leading roles are played by the excellent actors Romola Garay and Chris O’Daud (the latter used to humor in “Computer Specialists”, but showed unexpected dramatic talent), and the bright Gillian Anderson appears in the episodic image of the mistress of the brothel.

  • IMDb: 7.4.

The story of the ups and downs of magician Harry Houdini, famous for his astounding shoots. His life was amazingly bright: the illusionist had the chance to become a destroyer of legends and even meet people like Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigory Rasputin.

The role of Houdini was played by the owner of the Oscar Adrian Brody, known for his intellectual expressive game. And he did it splendidly, although outwardly the actor is not too similar to his historical prototype.

If the tandem of Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie in itself seems to you an insufficient reason to watch “The Night Administrator”, the numerous awards will say it all: the Emmy Award for director Susanne Beer, the three Golden Globes and the title of the best British series of 2016 Radio Times versions.

A detective series from the team of J.J. Abrams based on the novel by Stephen King will be appreciated by everyone who is close to the spirit of post-war America of the 1960s. They decided to call James Franco for the lead role and were not mistaken: the hero in his performance turned out to be a terribly sweet and charming guy.

10. Rillington Place

Rillington place

  • IMDb: 7.1.

The mini-series starring Tim Roth tells the story of a real maniac John Christie, who, while his wife was away, lured women into his house, poisoned them with gas, raped, strangled and buried the corpses in the back two.

The name of the series is consonant with the street on which the killer once lived. True, it can no longer be found on the map of modern London: after the story was publicized, the street had to be renamed due to notoriety.

11. One night

The night of

At first, you might get the impression that this is a series about finding a killer. But instead of a detective investigation, we are shown a long and painful lawsuit. At the same time, the young actor Reese Ahmed demonstrated the impressive evolution of his character, clearly showing how a naive guy turns into a person who was forever changed by a brutal penitentiary system.

  • Duration: 5 episodes.
  • IMDb: 8.1.

Aristocrat Patrick Melrose is trying to overcome his addictions and return to normal life. It soon becomes clear that the causes of the hero’s self-destructive behavior lie in early childhood.

In the series based on the autobiographical stories of Edward St. Obin, Benedict Cumberbatch gives a masterful game and shows a very reliable overcoming of the collapse of the personality. Patrick Melrose also raises important topics such as the horrors of sexual violence and the effects of childhood injuries. It is not surprising that the series immediately received two well-deserved BAFTA awards.

13. Chernobyl

  • USA, UK, 2019.
  • Historical drama.
  • Duration: 5 episodes.
  • IMDb: 9.5.

The five-part project of the HBO channel, dedicated to one of the worst technological disasters in history – the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, recreates events related to the tragedies and the elimination of its consequences.

A special advantage of the series-triumphant Emmy-2019 was that the authors did not focus on the disaster itself. Instead, they showed how a variety of people saw the situation: senior officials, station workers, and ordinary Soviet citizens.

14. Family marriage

State of the union

  • Comedy family drama.
